Poet. Wrote on western themes. Father a founder of Dakota Wesleyan University (Mitchell, S.D.). Contracted tuberculosis while student there (1902) and moved to Arizona where worked as ranch hand. Dominick J. O'Malley was born in New York City in 1867. His father, Dominick O'Malley, fought in the Civil War with New York's 69th Regiment and remained in the military in New York City after the war until he was transferred to Fort Concho near San Angelo, Texas, in December 1866. John I. White (1902-1992) was a writer, singer of cowboy songs, radio personality, and map draftsman. His singing career culminated when he played his guitar and sang as "The Lonesome Cowboy" on the NBC radio drama "Death Valley Days" sponsored by Twenty-Mule-Team Borax from 1929-1936.
